Oppo BD-83 Review
When I consider all the features that the BDP-83 has and the benefit of being an all in one player, I give this player 5 stars. Whether you want to watch a DVD, a Blu-ray disc, or just listen on your favorite music on CD’s, this player will do all that and more!
Most Blu-ray players are sluggish, acting more like my old vintage computer than audio/video gear. Boot and disc load times often exceed 30 seconds. Not the ‘83 – it’s responds more like a DVD player than a computer.
The BDP-83 is more complete than most Blu-Ray disc BD players that have been released to the market. I have a feeling the Oppo will not be outclassed, which says a lot considering the price and features the BDP-83 offers.
The BDP-83 starts up super fast. It is about the fastest standalone Blu-ray players on the market both for initial startup and loading discs. If you use Sony Playstation 3 as the gold standard, the BDP-83 is generally on track with that for speed. Any given title may be a second faster or slower, but by and large they are equivalent in this regard. Both are speed demons compared to any of the other Blu-ray players I’ve used since the format’s inception. Of course, some Java-heavy BD titles (like ‘Ratatouille‘) may always be a challenge. Nevertheless, the BDP-83 is fast enough that owners no longer need to give the matter any thought. The BDP-83 player’s connection times to BD-Live are also comparable to the Sony PS3, and are much faster than most other Profile 2.0 standalone Blu-ray model such as the Panasonic DMP-BD50.
